Primary Function:
The CNC Programmer position is responsible for taking drawing and models provide by design team and writing programs to operate factory machinery to build prototypes and production parts within tolerances according to customer specification. This includes but not limited to mill, lathe, combos, lasers, wire formers, mesh welders and robotics.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Perform set up operations for production work
- Work with quality to inspect work pieces for conformance to specifications
- Using Mastercam and other various software to program machinery efficiently
- Detect equipment malfunctions when out of tolerance and adjust machine to ensure quality of parts and reduce downtime
- Maintain organized program library
- Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in the process.
- Work with both Design, Jig and Fixturing to program and machine work-holdings
- Utilize metal fabrication, machining, and other expertise to implement mistake proofing control methods to increase quality, productivity and reduce costs of manufacturing
- Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and perform basic preventative maintenance on identified equipment
- Work closely with manufacturing engineering to ensure new products are programmed to match agreed upon cycle times
- Participate in GEMBA walks and kaizen events
- All other duties assigned by management
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken formats
- Knowledge in use of precision measuring instruments
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills
- Strong working knowledge of CAM software Mastercam primarily
- ability to read in-depth drawings including GD&T
- Must have superb problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Must have high aptitude for mechanics
- Strong foundation in material science
- The ability to fabricate prototypes, iterate rapidly from concept to high volume production
- Capability to work closely with department supervision and production workers
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience using Mastercam or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in a programing role
- CNC experience with vertical machining centers
- Knowledge in manual milling and turning
- Lean Trained – certification a plus
- Metal working industry experience
- 3+ years of SolidWorks experience helpful
- MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook, etc…) proficiency required
- Must possess current and valid driving record with clear history for the past three years
Physical Requirements:
- Extended periods of sitting and/or walking (33% – 75% of time)
- Stooping, bending, twisting, leaning (10% – 25% of time)
- Lifting of up to 25 lbs. occasionally (0% – 33% of time)
Work Environment:
- Frequent work in a manufacturing environment where the use of proper protective equipment (PPE) such as eye protection, hearing protection and safety shoes is mandatory
