Kaspar Wire Works: Jig Builder

Job Description:

Primary Function:

Builds prototype to create master model of products based on company and/or customer specifications

Position Responsibilities include(but not limited to):

  • Builds wood jigs, used as guides in welding wire products, etc… following sketches, samples, or prints
  • Lays out and marks jig dimensions on plywood stock according to written instructions or measurements taken from sample
  • Adjusts saw guides and cuts grooves in plywood to hold wires or plates in place for welding or adhering
  • Positions and attaches metal stops to plywood at certain points and drills holes in plywood at crossing points to facilitate adherence
  • Operates the following machinery:  radial arm saw, band saw, drill press, press welder, press brake, ring roller, bench grinder and sander, milling machine, shear, lathe, sand blaster, and wire trimmer
  • Wears all safety equipment, (glasses, gloves, ear plugs, back belts, etc.), that is required by management and company regulations
  • May operate lifting and moving devices to move materials and equipment
  • All other duties assigned by management


  • Demonstrated ability in the comprehension of and practical application of workmanship standards.
  • Experience with woodwork or as a carpenter is helpful, but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills


  • Ability to read blue prints and micrometers, display basic math skills, and follow sketches and duplicate samples
  • Ability to visually inspect product and assess dimensional accuracy of products using hand measurement devices (tape measure, ruler, square, caliper, protractor, etc.)
  • Ability to use all applicable machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to be trained on the job.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand up to ten (10) hours daily (67-100%)
  • Must be able to obtain parts and supplies 10-50 feet away (0-33%)
  • Must be able to walk, climb, reach, stoop, bend, kneel, squat and twist waist frequently (34-66%)
  • Must be able to rotate wrists and shoulders frequently (34%-66%)
  • Must be able to use hands for repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling and manipulation (34-66%)
  • Must be able to use foot for repetitive movement as in operating foot controls (0-33%)
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds frequently (34-66%) and 75 pounds assisted (team manual lift or with hoist) lift occasionally (0-33%) from one (1) to four (4 ) feet levels
  • Must be able to carry 40 pounds occasionally (0-33%) from 10 to 60 feet distances
  • Must be able to push and pull a pallet jack weighing from 200 to 2000 pounds and up to 4000 pounds with team manual assistance (0-33%)
